Studio Notes is a blog dedicated to the art and practice of living as a Christian artist.
My name is Marika, and I am a wife, mother, and artist living in the Western United States. I am on a journey to overcome my art education, and find an authentic artistic voice in the midst of homemaking, motherhood, and the messiness of life.
I believe that the Christian life and the creative life have much in common. Much ink has been spilled on the inherent creativity of all human beings, as creatures created in the image of God, so I won’t reiterate the point here. But the path that Christians are called to walk – of continual repentance, learning, and surrender to the divine will – shares the same iterative nature of living as an artist. Both require commitment, iteration, and passion.
Neither the Christian life nor the artistic path should be undertaken in solitude. I hope that you enjoy walking with me, and share a bit of your own wisdom with me in turn.
